Will the Tan be affected
by skin conditions?
Clients should be aware they are in for repeat
sessions being sprayed with DHA if they wish to
maintain their "tan" for more than a
few days. There are also certain skin conditions
which may result in an uneven, unattractive "tan."
These conditions include skin that has been previously
damaged by the sun, "older" skin, mottled
or freckled skin and scars. Care should also be
taken to prevent DHA colouration of the hair and
nails.
TOP^^
Will a spray tan offer
protection from the sun?
A sunless "tan" is not really a suntan
and affords no protection whatsoever against the
skin damage the sun may cause.
TOP^^
Will it give me a good
tan?
The mist in Siennasol temporarily makes your
skin golden brown, not orange. The chemical reaction
physically changes your skin colour, so there's
no need to worry about smear lines; Siennasol
has been well-tested in order to make sure it
provides a colour that looks exactly like a natural
tan. Even fair-skinned clients who usually turn
pink rather than brown while tanning will benefit
from a bronze colour by getting a Siennasol spray
tan.
TOP^^
How long does it last?
Once an optimal colour is achieved, it can be
maintained by tanning every five to ten days.
A Siennsol tan can last up to 10 days.
TOP^^
How best can the tan be
maintained?
Here's a mini-lesson in dermatology: The top
layer of your skin naturally sheds in order to
give way to newer skin. Because that top layer
of skin is the part that's dyed by the DHA, the
tan wears off once the top layer of dead skin
peels off. So, to extend the effects of the spray
tan, you must use moisturiser to keep the top
layer from shedding as quickly. Basically, if
you moisturise, it should help to maintain an
optimal tan. After getting the spray tan, try
not to sweat or shower for a minimum of four hours,
to allow the DHA to take full effect. So that
means no physical activity after spray tanning.
TOP^^
What can I do to maximize
the tan?
In addition to moisturising with a water-based
moisturiser, you should exfoliate before spray
tanning. Exfoliating basically eliminates the
already-dead skin cells, which means that the
spray tan mist will dye the layer of skin that
is likely to last for a longer period of time.
TOP^^
Does it leave an odor?
Siennasol contains a subtle & pleasant perfume,
but has little of the starchy smell often found
in other spray tans.
TOP^^
Can I wear deodorant
after the spray tan?
Siennasol is designed to be stable & produce the same tan time after time, however if the client applies any perfume, deodorant or cosmetic (before or just after application) the tan may become patchy.
TOP^^
Is it safe? Why or why
not?
Spray tanning uses FDA approved dihydroxyacetone
(DHA), which has been approved since the 1970s
and has no known toxicity. The FDA does recommend
protecting your eyes, lips and nasal passage while
in spray tanning booths. Inhaling or tasting the
mist are both bad ideas.
The American Association of Dermatologists considers
spray tanning to be the most effective sunless
tanning tool, and possibly the best part about
spray tanning is that you don't have to expose
yourself to damaging UV rays.
TOP^^
Who shouldn't use it?
Because of the way DHA reacts with skin particles,
certain people might receive an uneven or unattractive
tan when using it. This includes clients who have
sun-damaged skin, mottled or freckled skin, and
scars.
It should be noted that clients with excessively
dry and flaky skin should avoid spray tanning
because it could result in an uneven and patchy
tan.
TOP^^
How much do I charge?
In general, salons charge approximately £25
per session. Package prices that offer anywhere
between three and 10 sessions are available to
bring down the overall cost. This is recommended
for clients who plan on doing it more than once.
Each application should use aprox 80ml of solution.
TOP^^
What is DHA?
According to the American Academy of Dermatology,
the most effective sunless tanning products contain
dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient.
DHA is a colourless chemical (it is derived from
glycerin) that interacts with the amino acids in
dead skin cells to produce a brown colour change.
Since these dead skin cells are constantly being
shed, the colour change produced by DHA usually
lasts about five to seven days.
DHA is not absorbed through the skin into the body
and it has no known toxicity. DHA was first discovered
by the Germans in the late 1920's when DHA spilled
on the skin produced a brown colour. DHA has been
listed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
since 1973, and has been used in cosmetic preparations
for almost 30 years.
